At the Catlins coast on an iconic panoramic platform of the same name in New Zealand you can find one of the oldest lighthouses in New Zealand. This lighthouse was built between 1869 and 1870 with locally mined stone. Nugget Point owes its name to Captain Cook, because he thought the rocks looked a lot like gold coins. If you look down to the rocks below the lighthouse, you have a great chance of seeing a large number of penguins and fur seals.
